Emerald Downs
Day 32 - No Giveaway Says Make Way

6/17/2005

AUBURN, WASH. – No Giveaway insisted his foes make way as he came from dead last to grab the win in the final strides in Friday's feature event.

No Giveaway, ridden by Kevin Krigger, broke from the fourth postposition and quickly fell to the back as On The Ave raced to the lead with Diamond View setting fractions of 21 3/5 seconds and 44 seconds.

Krigger started his move at the three-eighths pole, eight lengths behind.

“The horse got pretty far back,” Krigger said. “I started moving him around the turn and I knew I had very little room and not much time. I was kind of not sure how I was going to pass them, but he shot through and did it.”

Emerald Downs' leading jockey guided his horse from four back at the head of the stretch, threading the needle through horses to win by three-quarter of a length at the wire in 1:15 2/5.

The 4-year-old son of He's Tops is a full brother to 2003 Horse of the Meeting and Top 3-year-old Filly Youcan'ttakeme, and he showed his bloodline in the $40,000 allowance optional claiming race.

No Giveaway improved his record to 4-2-0 from seven starts and paid $6, $3.40 and $3.40. Diamond View paid $5.80 and $4.40 for second. Crimson Design paid $4.20 for third.
